A Mosque Does Not Cease to Be a Mosque Because of a Fire
Question
Question: There is a village in which, about a hundred years ago, there was a small mosque in one spot. When a fire broke out in the village, the mosque was caught in it. A mosque was not rebuilt on that spot; instead a mosque was built at the door of a certain respected Hajji of the village (they were two brothers), on the joint land of both, so that the respected Hajji would look after the mosque fully. From that time until today the villagers have been performing the Friday (Jumuʿa)
Answer
The old mosque is also a mosque in the Sharʿi sense: it has not ceased to be a mosque because of the fire. And the new mosque is also a mosque. The mosque should be built with those bricks at the very place for building a mosque on which the bricks were bought. This is no matter for dispute and quarrelling; put an end to your mutual obstinacy.
