The waqf of cinema owners and the like, and spending its income on religious works

Question

In Meerut, Nadir ‘Ali has a factory making musical instruments, and these people also own a cinema. In addition, there is a waqf in the name of this Nadir ‘Ali, under which there is a considerable amount of property and houses; this waqf gives aid to Islamic madrasas and pays the salaries of the teachers of the elementary religious schools they have established. The waqf, at any rate, was made by these same people. Now, the teachers who receive salaries are also imams in mosques.

Answer

Making and selling musical instruments and working in cinema are prohibited; making instruments and obtaining a price by selling them is makruh. When a Muslim does some deed with the intention of reward, to set his Hereafter right, he does not try to spend bad money on it.
