Buying land with income from wine and endowing it to a madrasa
Question
Can land bought with income from the wine trade be endowed as waqf to a madrasa or to a mosque, or not?
Answer
If one specified the haram money and bought lawful goods in exchange for it, and then paid that very specified haram money as the price, then the income from it is impermissible: it should be spent on the poor and the needy (masakin), and putting it into any other good cause or spending it on one’s own needs is not permissible according to the Shari‘a.
