The sacrificial animal fell ill: slaughtering it before the Eid prayer

Question

A certain man says: on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijja, before the Eid prayer, the sacrificial goat suddenly fell so ill that there was no chance of it surviving, and it was slaughtered before the Eid prayer; then it will not count as the sacrifice. Will the owner of the nisab be obliged to buy another goat?

Answer

Yes, in this way the wajib sacrifice is not discharged on behalf of the owner of the nisab. After the Eid prayer he is obliged to perform the sacrifice, either by buying a separate animal and sacrificing it, or by taking a share in some large animal.
