The animal fell ill before the sacrifice
Question
Zayd bought a goat with the intention of sacrifice. Zayd owns the nisab, but after a few days the goat fell ill. May he sell this goat and, with the money from its price or with other money of his own, buy another goat and sacrifice it, or not?
Answer
Zayd is obliged to sacrifice another goat, whether he buys it with that same money or with other money, provided that the goat bought earlier has developed such an illness or such a defect that its sacrifice is no longer valid.
