With how many banknotes is the sacrifice wajib

Question: Nowadays, in terms of Indian banknotes, on the ownership of how many banknotes does the sacrifice become wajib?

Answer

When the banknotes amount to the value of fifty-two and a half tolas (a unit of weight, ≈ 11.66 g) of silver, they will be regarded as the nisab, and the sacrifice will be obligatory, provided that this nisab is in excess of basic needs (hajat asliyya). The passing of a year over this nisab is also not required.
