Relocation of a woman in 'idda
Question
Question: A man, a native of Benares, was living in Pakistan; he has died. Now his wife is spending the 'idda there, where she has no one except the husband's relatives. His brothers want to bring her to Benares; the wife's father is also going on Hajj and he, too, wishes to meet her.
Answer
If nothing prevents the widow from spending the 'idda period there — for example, maintenance (nafaqa) and expenses are provided for there, and her honour, life and property are safe — then she is not permitted to relocate here. The father's meeting her before leaving for Hajj is not a ground that makes relocation permissible.
