Three menstruations in sixty days
Question
Question: An adult Muslim woman, after being divorced by her first husband, married another man two months and five days later; but two days after that, that is, two months and seven days from the day of the talaq, she menstruated. The question now is: will her marriage be valid or not, and will this menstruation constitute a refutation of the completion of her ‘idda or not? And is it possible according to the rule of the Shari‘a for menstruation to come four times in two months and seven days, or not?
Answer
The ‘idda of talaq is three menstruations; if the woman is pregnant, the ‘idda is the delivery of the child. Before the ‘idda has passed, a second nikah is not permissible. Three menstruations can come in a minimum of sixty days.
