“Talaq to your girl”

Question

A certain man’s father-in-law and mother-in-law did not say, “Give our daughter talaq”; rather they said, “Talaq on your sister, talaq on your mother” (تیری بہن پر طلاق، تیری ماں پر طلاق). This young man said four times, “Talaq, talaq, talaq, talaq” (طلاق طلاق طلاق طلاق), and at the end he also said, “Talaq to your girl” (تیری لونڈیا کو طلاق). The mother-in-law has three daughters, all of whom are married. He named none of them, he did not say it from the heart, and he had no intention of giving talaq.

Answer

By these words — “talaq to your girl” — one talaq has certainly taken effect. Although his father-in-law has several daughters, he can give talaq only to the “girl” who is in his nikah; therefore talaq has fallen on his wife even without naming her.
