Divorcing a Wife Who Pressures Her Husband to Dishonour His Parents

Question

A man married about four years ago, and this woman has ruined her husband’s honour and humiliated all of her husband’s in-laws. One day, in her husband’s absence, she took all the belongings of the house and, alone and unveiled (without observing hijab), went off to her sister’s husband. She tells her husband: “First beat your parents with shoes and throw them out of the house, and do not speak to them.” The husband, however, says: “I cannot dishonour my parents; you may stay or not, as you like.

Answer

Dishonouring one’s parents is by no means permissible. If he cannot get along with his wife, is able to pay her mahr, and will face no difficulty after divorcing her, then it is best to give her talaq.
