Divorcing an Arrogant and Stubborn Wife
Question
About two months ago my wife went, against my wishes, with her own paternal uncle to her parents’ home, where she was to attend the wedding of her cousin (her maternal aunt’s son). As she was leaving I told her: “Look, you are going to your home without my permission; this act of yours is contrary to the Shari‘a. Yet, as your husband, I am warning you: the place you are going to is a wedding household, and in the bustle of a wedding immodest exposure (not observing hijab) and shamelessness are especially rampant.
Answer
You have written that she is an arrogant and stubborn girl, yet upon your prohibition she made a firm promise and even swore a severe oath; this shows that she is obedient, not arrogant and stubborn. Perhaps she forgot the oath. Keep advising her gently and repeatedly; there is hope that she will reform and your home will remain intact.
