Tayammum When Cold or Hot Water Causes Harm
Question
A person is used to performing ghusl with cold water, and from his estimation and experience, at such-and-such a time his health deteriorates from performing ghusl with cold water, or there is a fear that it will deteriorate, and it actually does deteriorate; and with hot water his health will quickly deteriorate, because he is used to cold water. What should be done in this case?
Answer
If there is repeated experience that ghusl causes harm, then at such a time tayammum is lawful. If cold water causes harm, he should perform ghusl with hot water; if hot water causes harm, he should perform ghusl with cold water; if water of both kinds causes harm, he should perform tayammum.
