Repeating Intercourse After the First Without Purifying the Private Part

Question

Is it permissible, after having intercourse once, to have intercourse again without performing istinja’, or not? Hazrat Shaykh Mawlana Zakariyya wrote that it is haram, but Mawlana Ashraf ‘Ali, in [the treatise] Kasrat-i Izdiwaj li-Sahib al-Mi‘raj (“On the Multiple Marriages of the Lord of the Ascension”), gave it the status of mustahabb and cited a hadith as evidence. Please state the position on which the fatwa is given (mufta bihi).

Answer

Having intercourse a second time after the first without purifying the private part is makruh; this is explained in Badhl al-Majhud, Awjaz al-Masalik and others, and in Shami a prohibition is mentioned. What can this lowly servant say regarding what the senior scholars have written?
