Visiting Graves in the State of Janaba

Question

What is [the ruling on] a person going to a graveyard or to a grave in a state of impurity, that is, in the state of janaba? Explain and be rewarded.

Answer

For visiting a grave one should go in a state of purity, because on going there reciting the Qur’an is also a sunna, and reciting the Qur’an in a state of impurity is impermissible. If he does not recite the Qur’an, then going in the state of janaba is not a sin either, though it is certainly contrary to what is better (khilaf al-afdal).
