Is Putting Water into the Nose Fard in Ghusl?
Question
A person came to need the ghusl of janaba. He first urinated, then after that cleaned off the impurity (najasa), then washed both hands, then rinsed his mouth, then poured water over his whole body. After that he prayed the Fajr, Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha’ prayers. Are these prayers of his valid? Also: in every ghusl other than the ghusl of janaba, is rinsing the mouth and putting water into the nose fard, wajib or sunna?
Answer
Putting water into the nose is fard in the ghusl of janaba; without it the ghusl will not be valid, and without ghusl the prayer will not be valid. In no ghusl other than the ghusl of janaba is putting water [into the nose] fard.
