Istinja When There Is No Screened Place

Question

If there is no screened place in which to perform the major istinja (after defecation), may a person pray without performing istinja or not?

Answer

If there is no screened place available for performing istinja and one cannot perform istinja without uncovering the ‘awra, then one may pray without performing istinja. [ar]من لا يجد سترة تركه، يعني الاستنجاء، ولو على شط نهر[/ar] “Whoever does not find a screen leaves it — that is, istinja — even if [he is] on the bank of a river” (Kabiri).
