At What Time the Funeral Prayer Is Makruh

Question

Is there also any time for the funeral prayer [at which it is] haram or makruh tahrimi? If there is, please inform us of its degree. Besides that, may the funeral prayer be performed at any time of the day and night? [And] what is the degree of each [of these]: emphasized sunna and the like, makruh tahrimi, [makruh] tanzihi, mustahabb? In Urdu books “prohibited” (mamnu‘) and “impermissible” are usually written, from which no degree is apparent.

Answer

At the three times at which praying is makruh tahrimi, the funeral prayer too is makruh tahrimi; at all other times it is valid. Since ordinary people are unable to grasp the difference between emphasized and non-emphasized [sunna], makruh tahrimi and tanzihi, fard and wajib and so on — for these degrees derive from such proofs as nass, zahir, mufassar, muhkam, definitive in…
