Two Rak‘as of Voluntary Prayer after True Dawn

Question

May one pray tahiyyat al-wudu’ (the prayer greeting the ablution) after the morning adhan, before the sunna, or not? It is established from books that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed tahiyyat al-wudu’ before tahajjud: having prayed witr, he would rest, and since the sleep of the Prophet ﷺ did not break ablution, he would pray [it] with that same ablution. Likewise, if someone, after making ablution following the morning adhan, prays tahiyyat al-wudu’, will it be permissible or not?

Answer

After true dawn, tahiyyat al-wudu’ is not permitted; through the sunna of Fajr the reward of tahiyyat al-wudu’ will also be obtained.
