The time of the Eid prayer

Question

(1) If, on Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha, rain begins in the morning and it rains very heavily until two o'clock in the afternoon, a canopy or the like cannot be arranged in time, and the mosque has no covered veranda to shelter from the rain, may the Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha prayer be performed after two o'clock in the afternoon? (2) If it may not, what should be done, and how is the prayer to be performed? There is no building that can hold the worshippers.

Answer

(1) After the sun's zawal the two Eid prayers are not valid. In a case of necessity, the Eid al-Fitr prayer should be performed on the second day, and the Eid al-Adha prayer, if it cannot be performed on the second day either, on the third day.
