Ruling on praying before the adhan

Question

If we pray the two rak‘as of Fajr before true dawn or before the Fajr adhan, will they count as validly performed (ada’)?

Answer

If the two [rak‘as of] sunna are prayed after true dawn but before the Fajr adhan, they are validly performed; if they are prayed before true dawn, they are not.
