Doubt About Omitting a Wajib
Question
A person has a baseless notion (wahm) or a doubt (shakk) that the first sitting (qa‘da) was missed, or that Surah al-Fatiha was not recited, or that the qunut supplication was missed — what should he do in such a case? And is there any difference between a preponderant assumption (ghalabat al-zann) and both sides being equal?
Answer
He should act on the preponderant assumption; a baseless notion is not taken into account. Equality [of both sides] after the time [has passed] is not taken into account; within the time he should pray it again.
