Why Does the Prayer Have This Composite Form?
Question
When the prayer is performed, why has precisely this manner been adopted for it — go into bowing (ruku‘), go into prostration (sajda)? If it is only worship that is to be done, why can it not be done sitting in one place?
Answer
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Pray as you have seen me praying.” Apart from this, the pillars of the prayer — qiyam, ruku‘, sujud, qira’a — are all mentioned in the Noble Qur’an, and their detailed manner the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself taught by performing them in practice.
