Proof of Du‘a’ After Every Prayer
Question
After the five daily prayers, both the imam and the muqtadis (followers) make du‘a’ with raised hands. Is this established by any sound (sahih) hadith? Kindly inform us with a satisfying answer.
Answer
The command to make du‘a’ as such has come in the Noble Qur’an in many places, and there is also a threat (wa‘id) for abandoning du‘a’. That the Prophet ﷺ made du‘a’ after every prayer in general is established in many hadiths. A few narrations are therefore quoted here from the book of Hafiz Abu Bakr al-Andalusi, ‘Amal al-Yawm wa-l-Layla (“The Deeds of the Day and Night”)
