Cases of qasr and itmam while travelling

Question

A certain man, in fulfilling the duties of his employment, is posted at his headquarters, for example in Saharanpur, and is mostly out on tour away from the headquarters. It also happens that he goes out intending one or two days and, when work comes up, returns after a longer period; from that place he has to go on to another place; or, contrary to expectation, he returns to the headquarters after a shorter period.

Answer

When a journey begins from one's original homeland (watan asli) or place of residence (watan iqama) — that is, where one intends to stay fifteen days — one should see what distance one firmly intends to travel. If one intends to travel at least three stages, whether at a stretch or stopping along the way (provided one intends to stop for less than fifteen days)
