Praying a nafl prayer sitting

Question

What is [the ruling on] praying nafl sitting? And what is [the ruling on] praying nafl sitting after witr? How much reward is there in it? In “Rukn-e Din” (“The Pillar of Religion”) it is written that it is mustahabb. What kind of book is this?

Answer

In praying nafl sitting, half the reward is received compared with praying standing. The nafl after witr are not an exception to this general rule. For his honour the Prophet ﷺ there is no reduction in reward from praying sitting. In “Rukn-e Din” there are in places also some issues that are not acceptable according to Hanafi fiqh and Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama‘a.
