Praying nafl sitting without an excuse
Question
It is often seen that after the tarawih prayer and the witr prayer people pray two rak‘as of nafl sitting without an excuse. May one pray nafl sitting without an excuse? And there are also some people who forbid praying nafl after the tarawih prayer and the witr prayer, because of which it is often seen that in the month of Ramadan some pray prayers after witr and some leave without praying [them]. Kindly honour us with a detailed answer on this matter!
Answer
Praying nafl sitting is permissible even without an excuse, but there is more reward in praying standing. Praying two [rak‘as of] nafl after witr is established by the hadith and fiqh: whoever prays them will receive reward, and whoever does not pray them commits no sin; no objection should be raised over this. Encouraging [it] is permissible.
