The ruling on the prayer with an error in the case-endings (i‘rab)
Question
The respected imam recited Surah al-Dahr in the Friday prayer. In it he recited “مذكورْ” instead of “مذكوراً” and “كفورْ” instead of “كفوراً”, that is, he recited the ra’ with a sukun. One of the followers (muqtadi) even prompted him, but the respected imam did not take the prompt. Now the question is: was the prayer valid or not?
Answer
The meaning was not distorted by this error in the case-endings (i‘rab), so the prayer did not become fasid (invalid); and there was no need to prompt him either. The prayer of the one who prompted did not become fasid either. The detailed treatment is in “Hashiyat al-Tahtawi ‘ala Maraqi al-Falah”, p. 186.
