Clearing the throat in prayer

Question

Is it permissible for an imam, during the prayer and without need, to clear his throat again and again, or is it makruh? Is prayer behind such an imam permissible with karaha, permissible without karaha, or impermissible?

Answer

Clearing the throat without need is makruh; and if words (the sounds of letters) are also produced in it, it is an invalidator of the prayer (mufsid).
