The imam standing somewhat higher for the prayer

Question

A respected imam stands on a place one foot high, while all the muqtadis stand below. Will the prayer be valid or not?

Answer

If [the elevation] is less than one cubit (dhira‘), or there is some compelling need, it is permissible; otherwise it is makruh. The best course is for the imam and the muqtadis all to stand level on one surface.
