The prayer of a wine-drinker

Question

(1) Should a person who has drunk wine perform the prayer or not? And does he become sinful by performing the prayer after drinking wine? (2) One gentleman says that, first, by drinking wine he sinned, and second, by praying while having drunk wine he committed a further sin. Another says that he certainly sinned by drinking wine, but for performing the prayer he will surely receive the reward of the prayer. Which of these two views is correct?

Answer

(1) Such a person must certainly pray even in this state, but abandoning wine is also necessary and fard for him. As long as a single drop of wine remains in his stomach, the prayer will not be accepted in the court of Allah Most High. (2) Everyone agrees that one becomes sinful through wine, and therefore abandoning it is necessary according to all.
