Muhadhat in the Two Holy Sanctuaries

Question

In the Two Holy Sanctuaries, at the time of hajj, because of the crowds women join in with the men and begin the fard prayer. On such an occasion several situations arise: (1) a woman is in front, in the row ahead; (2) to the right and left without a gap; (3) to the right and left with a gap of one person; (4) directly behind; (5) in front, one or two rows ahead. In which of these situations will the prayer be valid?

Answer

According to the Hanafis, if a woman takes part in the congregation, it is necessary for her that the imam has made the niyya of leading the woman. In that case, if the woman is to the right or left, adjoining, or in front, the prayer of the man to whose right, left or front she is will become invalid.
