Muhadhat (a Woman Standing Level with a Man in Prayer)
Question
Zayd and his wife pray on one prayer mat, pressed up against each other, and each of them has a separate niyya. Some scholars say that the prayer becomes fasid (invalid), and some scholars say that the prayer is valid. Whose view is correct, and on the view of which imam is the fatwa given?
Answer
Since the prayer of each of them is separate, in such a case neither one’s prayer becomes fasid; rather, it becomes makruh: [ar]وَيُفْسِدُهَا مُحَاذَاةُ الْمُشْتَهَاةِ بِسَاقِهَا وَكَعْبِهَا فِي الْأَصَحِّ، وَلَوْ مَحْرَمًا لَهُ أَوْ زَوْجَتَهُ، فِي صَلَاتِهِ مُطْلَقَةً مُشْتَرَكَةً[/ar] “It (the prayer)
