Slight laughter invalidated the prayer but did not nullify wudu

Question

On the day of Jumu'at al-Wida' (the last Friday of Ramadan), while Zayd was praying the four rak'as of sunna before the fard of Jumu'a, something came to his mind that made him laugh very slightly, so that the sound reached only his own ears; but the laughter did not produce enough sound for a person sitting next to him to hear. Would doing so nullify the wudu? For prayer is not valid without wudu. He had also heard from someone that whoever prays without wudu goes out of Islam.

Answer

The prayer in which he laughed to the extent that he heard his own voice while the person beside him did not — that prayer of his was broken, but it had no effect whatsoever on his wudu. Therefore the Jumu'at al-Wida' prayer after it and the subsequent sunnas and nafls are all valid. He has not gone out of Islam, and repeating (i'ada) this prayer is not required.
