Loud laughter (qahqaha) nullifies wudu

Question

In a prayer that has ruku' and sajda, the wudu of an adult man is said to be nullified by laughing out loud (qahqaha), although an instance of laughter in prayer may perhaps occur in practice — I myself have not come across such a case. Moreover, in this situation nothing exits the body such that the wudu would be nullified; thus it is something beyond reason. Therefore there must necessarily be a text (nass) for it — only then can this matter be worthy of following.

Answer

Regarding this issue, a number of Companions ﵃ have transmitted hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Imam al-Zayla'i ﵀ has narrated them with their chains in Nasb al-Raya (vol. 1, pp. 47–50). Besides these there are mursal reports, which run up to p. 54.
