Recommended Recitation in Prayer
Question
Books of fiqh mention recommended recitations for specific prayers — for example, reciting from Surat al-Bayyina (Lam yakun) through Surat al-Nas in Maghrib. Does this mean one should recite any passage of similar length, or do these particular surahs carry greater reward?
Answer
The Sunnah is to recite these specific surahs. It is nonetheless established that the Prophet ﷺ occasionally recited other surahs as well. In general, however, one should stick to these prescribed surahs.
