Recitation in the Prayer of a Masbuq

Question

Zayd missed the first rak‘a of the fard of ‘Isha’ (became a masbuq). After the imam’s salam, which rak‘a will this rak‘a be considered with respect to recitation — that is, what ruling will it have as to the amount of recitation and the order of the suras (which comes first and which later)? And if it has the ruling of the first [rak‘a], is it better to recite in it the sura the imam recited, or not? Please state this with references to the books.

Answer

With respect to its recitation this rak‘a will be considered the first rak‘a. Therefore all the rulings of recitation of the first rak‘a apply to it; for example, in this rak‘a he will recite the thana’, the ta‘awwudh, Surat al-Fatiha and [another] sura.
