The imamate of one who prays ihtiyat al-zuhr
Question
An imam holds to [praying] ihtiyat al-zuhr (the precautionary zuhr) and openly says that our Jumu‘a is not valid, and therefore praying ihtiyat al-zuhr after Jumu‘a is wajib; and the mosque is situated in a city or a small town. What should a person who does not hold to ihtiyat al-zuhr do behind such an imam? For by praying behind him the Jumu‘a cannot be performed, since the imam himself does not accept it.
Answer
What the imam says is contrary to the position on which the fatwa is given. Nevertheless, it is valid to pray the Jumu‘a behind him for a person who believes that when the conditions are fulfilled the Jumu‘a is valid and ihtiyat al-zuhr is not wajib.
