Giving amulets to Chamars in the mosque

Question

In our mosque an imam gave an amulet to a man who had two wives and [thereby] caused him to divorce one wife. Moreover, he gives amulets to Chamars (an Indian caste of leatherworkers, regarded as low) in the mosque, whereby the mosque is dishonoured. For these reasons the imam’s father and a few people do not pray behind him. Is prayer behind such an imam permissible?

Answer

To say without a Shari‘a proof that such-and-such a person brought about a divorce by means of an amulet is impermissible and a sin, just as separating husband and wife and bringing about a divorce without a Shari‘a reason is a sin. So if the muqtadis have slandered the imam, they should repent and ask forgiveness and be careful in future.
