The imam going from door to door for his food

Question

For the imam who leads the prayer in the mosque of our neighbourhood, food is provided by the neighbourhood, and until now the imam himself brings it by going to the houses of the neighbourhood. Often, for a single meal, he has to knock repeatedly on the door or with the [door] chain, and it frequently happens that he even has to hear improper words from the household. Would it be appropriate for the imam to have the mutawalli of the mosque make a proper arrangement for [his] food?

Answer

The situation described is certainly contrary to the imam’s office. Let the mutawalli make arrangements for him and have the food delivered to the imam, so that he himself does not have to go from door to door. And since Allah Most High has granted the mosque an ample income, a salary should also be arranged for the imam.
