Did the Prophet ﷺ pray behind any of the Companions?
Question
In Sahih Muslim there is the hadith of Hadrat al-Mughira ibn Shu‘ba ﵁ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ followed Hadrat ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf ﵁ in prayer. Did he follow any other Companion in prayer as well, especially Abu Bakr al-Siddiq ﵁, even if due to some circumstance? A certain person denies this. What is correct?
Answer
During his final illness [the Prophet ﷺ] appointed Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq ﵁ as imam, and he himself also came to follow him, but Abu Bakr could not go on leading the prayer: quite involuntarily he stopped. Therefore the noble Prophet ﷺ himself completed that prayer.
