The Eid prayer of Hanafis behind a Shafi‘i

Question

In the prayer of the two Eids (‘idayn), if the imam is Shafi‘i by madhhab and the followers are Hanafis — in whose view the Eid prayer is wajib, while according to the Shafi‘is it is sunna — will the Eid prayer of the Hanafis be correct and permissible or not? And if the Hanafis’ following of a Shafi‘i is not correct and permissible, what way is there for it to become correct and permissible?

Answer

If the imam observes the madhhab of the Hanafis — that is, he performs the fard and wajib acts and does not omit anything — then the prayer of the Hanafis following such an imam will be validly performed without any doubt.
