Imamate of one who recites quickly in silent recitation and slowly in audible recitation
Question
What is the ruling on the imamate of an imam who performs the congregational prayer calmly but prays very quickly when alone? For apparently his outer and inner are not one. Likewise, many imams recite the Noble Qur’an at length in the two rak‘as with recitation, because they recite with tartil (measured recitation), and perform the remaining one or two rak‘as very quickly; some recite so fast that hardly anyone could manage even half of “al-Hamd”. Is the imamate of such a person permissible without karaha?
Answer
Reciting quickly when reciting silently and slowly when reciting aloud is not an act because of which the imamate becomes impermissible, although the imam ought to observe the rules and etiquettes of the Noble Qur’an in both kinds of recitation. Likewise, reciting calmly while leading and quickly when praying alone does not introduce any defect into the imamate.
