Imamate of One Who Votes for Communists

Question

Is it permissible to become a member of the Communist Party and to vote for it so that it succeeds, or not? And what is the ruling on praying behind one who votes for it? (2) Zayd is a member of the town area [committee], elected on the Communist ticket, and he is also its supporter. What is the ruling on praying behind him? (3) Bakr is a hafiz of the Qur’an, and he too voted for the Communist candidate so that he would win. What is the ruling on praying the tarawih behind him?

Answer

Communists, by their very foundation, are opponents of the religion of Islam; to become a member of their party while adhering to this foundation of theirs is to oppose the religion of Islam, and to vote for them is to vote for an opponent of the religion of Islam.
