Leading the prayer without a cap or turban

Question

When a certain imam began to lead the prayer, he had on his head neither a turban nor a cap — only a sheet wrapped over his whole body. One of the followers told the imam that praying like this is makruh. To this the imam replied: “I will lead the prayer just like this; whoever wishes, pray, and whoever does not wish, do not pray.” What is the ruling on this?

Answer

Praying and leading the prayer bareheaded when a turban and a cap are available is makruh. One should pray and lead the prayer wearing respectable clothing. Nevertheless, the fard is discharged in the situation described.
