Leading the prayer in only a cap

Question

If the imam leads the prayer wearing only a cap, will only the imam himself be deprived of this merit, or will the followers too receive less reward because of the imam’s cap (whether the followers are wearing a turban or a cap)?

Answer

When the imam himself has not attained this merit, how would the followers attain it? However, if a follower has himself prayed wearing a turban, he will receive the excellence of his own turban; and if the imam ties a turban, [the follower] will receive the excellence of that as well.
