A Decision That Teachers Pray Before the Mosque’s Congregation
Question
The managing body of a madrasa decided that the teachers should pray Zuhr earlier in a separate congregation and then start teaching, although [previously] the teachers used to pray in congregation during the break. The break lasted from one o’clock to two o’clock; now it has been made from half past twelve to a quarter past one. What is the ruling concerning such people? And is it permissible to give the hides of sacrificial animals, zakat and the like to a school where an emphasized sunna is abandoned by order?
Answer
The teachers should be permitted to take part in the mosque’s congregation; the time spent on it can be made up at the beginning or at the end [of the lessons]. The decision that has been made to abandon the congregation is not fit to be implemented; it should be withdrawn.
