Saying “subhana rabbiya al-karim” in ruku‘
Question
Is it correct in the prayer to say “subhana rabbiya al-karim” in ruku‘ instead of “subhana rabbiya al-‘azim” or not? If someone reads “ajim” instead of “al-‘azim”, does he remain within the fold of Islam or not? And what is the state of his faith?
Answer
In the noble hadith it is “subhana rabbiya al-‘azim”; saying “subhana rabbiya al-karim” is contrary to the noble hadith. A person who does not pronounce [the letters] ‘ayn and za’ probably reads “ajim”; reading in this way is wrong, but he does not become a kafir by it, because the person who is unable to pronounce ‘ayn and za’ is constrained (majbur).
