The ruling on the du‘a ma’thura, and tahmid and tasmi‘ in the qawma
Question
Question: (1) Is it necessary in the final sitting (qa‘da) of the prayer, after the salawat, to recite the du‘a ma’thura (a supplication transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ)? (2) On standing up from ruku‘, is it necessary to say both “sami‘a Allahu li-man hamidah” (سمع الله لمن حمده) and “Rabbana laka l-hamd” (ربنا لك الحمد)? What do the scholars say about this?
Answer
(1) It is a sunna. (2) The munfarid says both, the muqtadi says only “Rabbana laka l-hamd”, and the imam says only “sami‘a Allahu li-man hamidah”. This way is the sunna.
