Saying amin aloud: what the hadiths say
Question
Is saying amin aloud (amin bi-l-jahr) permissible on the basis of the noble hadith or not?
Answer
The hadiths on this are of both kinds: in some it is aloud, in some it is quiet. Imam Abu Hanifa ﵀ and Imam Malik ﵀ say that amin should be said quietly; Imam Ahmad ﵀ says that amin should be said aloud. Imam al-Shafi‘i ﵀ has two positions: the old position agrees with Imam Ahmad, and the new position agrees with Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik.
