The basmala when beginning the prayer

Question

Question: when someone stands on the prayer mat to pray, is there an instruction to recite “Bismillah” or not? And if there is such an instruction, why is it not recorded in the books on prayer?

Answer

There is no instruction to recite “Bismillah” at the time of standing up [for the prayer]; rather, the instruction [to recite it] applies at the time of beginning “al-Hamdu lillah” [Surat al-Fatiha].
